NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of coriander rose while those of turmeric and jeera fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Thursday. Coriander was up on strong wedding season demand. Turmeric contracts fell on profit-taking as prices surged above INR 14,500 per 100 kilograms. Jeera prices fell despite the recent US duty relaxation, due to ample stock availability, analysts said.

The most-active December contract of TURMERIC declined 1.3% at INR 14,350 per 100 kg on profit booking after prices crossed the INR 14,500 per 100 kg, analysts said. However, the market is likely to remain bullish amid tight supply and good seasonal demand, SMC Global said. Additionally, fears of crop damage from excessive rainfall in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka are seen as restricting sharper declines, according to Kedia Advisory. The continuous rains in Erode have led to disease outbreaks, complicating storage conditions due to high humidity, while depleted stocks with farmers and limited fresh arrivals further support the market tone, the brokerage added.

The most-active December contract of JEERA fell 0.2% to INR 21,430 per 100 kg on ample stock availability, analysts at SMC Global said. According to Kedia Advisory, farmers hold around 2 million bags of cumin, of which only 300,000–400,000 bags are expected to be traded this season, leaving a heavy carry-forward stock of nearly 1.6 million bags. However, the downside is likely to be limited due to seasonal buying, delayed sowing, and expectations of lower acreage in the ongoing season.

The most-active December contract of CORIANDER rose 0.1% to INR 8,816 per 100 kg, bolstered by brisk marriage-season buying, relatively lower arrivals, and overseas demand for the upcoming Ramadan, analysts said. Steady buying from traders and retailers, along with tight supply conditions, continues to bolster overall market sentiment, they said.
