NEW DELHI – Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi Tuesday launched several digital platforms aimed at modernising India's food-grain storage and public distribution systems, saying they will make operations faster, more transparent and more efficient, a release by the government read.
The Central Warehousing Corp.'s new Enterprise Resource Planning platform, Bhandaran 360, was the key announcement. According to the release, the system will bring all major functions--including warehouse management, finance, marketing, human resources, and contract monitoring--on to a single digital system. It will also link with over 30 external agencies such as ports, Food Corp. of India, National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India, and Indian Customs Electronic Gateway, enabling real-time tracking and smoother coordination.
For food-grain movement and distribution, Food Corp. of India also launched a mobile-first platform, called 'Anna Darpan', which replaces the existing Depot Online System. It integrates procurement, storage, transit, quality checks and sales, offering a single view of stock across the supply chain.
To improve feedback from the public, the ministry rolled out 'Asha', an AI-based system that gathers beneficiary responses on grain quality and service at ration shops through automated voice calls in multiple languages. The system is expected to reach 2 million beneficiaries per month by March 2026, the release said.
The minister also virtually inaugurated a 150,000 tonne steel silo complex at Malout in Punjab, which is designed to reduce grain losses and improve handling. End
