MUMBAI – India's oilmeal exports in October rose over 21% on year to 371,235 tonnes, according to data released by The Solvent Extractors' Association of India Tuesday. For Apr-Oct, oilmeal exports were at 2.46 million tonnes, up from 2.39 million tonnes a year ago.

Exports of soymeal in October rose nearly 58% to 180,172 tonnes from 114,384 tonnes a year ago. In Apr-Oct, soymeal exports were at 1.02 million tonnes, largely unchanged from a year ago. Demand for Indian soymeal in global markets is poor with the commodity facing stiff competition from South American and North American producers. Domestically, soymeal is facing greater competition in the feed market from distillers' dried grains with solubles, the association said earlier.

Exports of mustard meal fell over 9% on year to 145,552 tonnes in October. Exports of mustard meal during Apr-Oct rose to 1.25 million tonnes from 1.18 million tonnes a year ago. Exports of castorseed meal fell 1.3% on year to 27,589 tonnes in October and were down nearly 5% on year during Apr-Oct at 158,178 tonnes, the association said.

Exports of groundnut meal rose nearly 22% on year to 3,333 tonnes in October and were up 147% on year at 19,300 tonnes during Apr-Oct. Increase in production of groundnut for the past two years has lead to more crushing and export of groundnut meal, the association said. As per the SEA Kharif Groundnut Crop Survey in Gujarat, the area under groundnut has expanded about 300,000 hectares to 2.2 million hectares, the association said.

Exports of rice bran meal in October rose to 14,589 tonnes from 63 tonnes a year ago. In Apr-Oct, too, rice bran meal exports rose to 14,589 tonnes from 14,243 tonnes a year ago. The government has lifted the ban on export of de-oiled rice bran with effect from Oct. 3, 2025. This led to 14,589 tonnes of exports to Vietnam and Nepal during October, the association said. In July 2023, the government had banned the export of de-oiled rice bran citing high domestic prices of cattle feed and milk products.

In Apr-Oct, a total of 503,623 tonnes of oilmeal were exported from the Kandla port in Gujarat, down from 783,035 tonnes a year ago, the association said. However, exports from Mundra port, also in Gujarat, were at 951,458 tonnes, up from 581,288 tonnes a year ago, it said. In the same period, exports from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Navi Mumbai fell to 379,952 tonnes from 384,001 tonnes a year ago, the association said.

In Apr-Oct, India's oilmeal exports to Bangladesh fell 39% to 260,769 tonnes from 428,241 tonnes in the corresponding period last year, according to the data. During the same period, exports to South Korea fell over 42% on year to 249,196 tonnes. Oilmeal exports to Vietnam fell to 112,854 tonnes from 153,377 tonnes a year ago, as per the data.

China imported 588,750 tonnes of oilmeal from India during Apr-Oct, compared to just 22,721 tonnes in the corresponding period a year ago. The country's imports comprised 581,823 tonnes of rapeseed or mustard meal and 6,927 tonnes of castorseed meal. European countries were major importers of soybean meal from India, with Germany and France importing 173,740 tonnes and 106,595 tonnes, respectively, the association said.

The following table details exports of various oilmeals, in tonnes, in September and Apr-Sept, compared with the year-ago numbers, according to the latest data from SEA, with the year-on-year change in percentage terms:
