Jeera up on seasonal buying; turmeric ends flat

NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of jeera and coriander rose while those of turmeric were flat on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Monday. Seasonal buying drove up jeera prices, while strong wedding season demand boosted coriander prices, analysts said. Turmeric traded flat on mixed cues.
At 1420 IST, the most-active December contract of TURMERIC was at INR 14,320 per 100 kg, largely unchanged from its previous close. Turmeric prices are likely to remain weak and hover between in the INR 13,900 and INR 14700 due to profit booking at present, SMC Global said in a note. However, long-term trend seems bullish given the background of supply tightness amid good seasonal demand as of now. Continued seasonal buying, along with concerns over potential yield losses caused by heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, are likely to keep prices firm in the near term amid a limited supply situation, it added.
The most-active December contract of JEERA was up 3.4% at INR 21,395 per 100 kg as current prices supported by ongoing seasonal buying, according to SMC. Delayed sowing and expectation of slightly lower acreage may offer some near-term support to market sentiment, the brokerage said. However, upside may be capped as the broader long-term outlook remains pressured due to ample overall stock availability..
The most-active December contract of CORIANDER rose 0.5% to INR 8,600 per 100 kg, supported by strong marriage-season demand and reduced arrival pressure, analysts said. Steady buying from traders and retailers, along with tight supply conditions, continues to bolster overall market sentiment, they said.
