Tea Board says India's exports up 18% on yr at INR 41.23 bln during Apr-Sept

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 41.23 billion in Apr-Sept, over 18% higher than INR 34.85 billion a year ago, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India. In volume terms, exports rose over 7% to 135.24 million kilograms during the period. During Jan-Sept, India exported tea worth INR 61.20 billion, up nearly 19% from a year ago, the data showed.

 

Exports from northern India rose over 28% on year to INR 30.14 billion in Apr-Sept, the data showed. Exports from southern India fell nearly 3% to INR 11.08 billion. In terms of volume, exports from northern India rose over 21% on year to 90.38 million kg, but those from southern India declined nearly 14% on year to 44.86 million kg. 

 

In Apr-Sept, the average price of tea exported from north India was INR 333.55 per kg, up from INR 315.51 per kg a year ago. The average price of tea exported from southern India rose to INR 247.12 per kg from INR 219.32 per kg a year ago, the data showed. The average unit price of tea exported from the country rose to INR 304.88 per kg in Apr-Sept from INR 276.00 per kg a year ago, according to the data.

 

In Jan-Sept, exports from north India rose nearly 29% to INR 43.84 billion and in terms of quantity, exports were up over 19% at 135.74 million kg. However, during the same period, net tea exports from south India were 0.21% lower at INR 17.36 billion and volume was down nearly 14% at 68.74 million kg. The all India average price of tea during Jan-Sept was INR 299.31 per kg, higher than INR 265.53 per kg a year ago.  End
