MUMBAI – The US Department of Agriculture has lowered its global oilseed production estimate for 2025-26 (May-Apr) to 688.01 million tonnes from 691.55 million tonnes projected in September. Production has been lowered by 3.54 million tonnes mainly due to lower soybean and sunflower production, partly offset by higher rapeseed and cottonseed, the department said in its November edition of the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report.

The department did not release its October report in view of the shutdown of the US government administration.

The report carried with it a note which stated, "Due to lapse in government funding from Oct. 1 through Nov. 12, some US data sources that are typically used were not available for the November 2025 WASDE (World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates). Changes to the US balance sheets continue to reflect all US government data available at the time of publication, but this month, in some cases, that information was limited.”

"Global sunflower production is lowered by 1.0 million tonnes on lower production for Ukraine, Russia, the EU, and Turkey; partly offsetting is higher sunflowerseed production for Argentina," the department said. Meanwhile, estimates of the global production of rapeseed have been raised by 1.3 million tonnes due to higher production in the European Union, Australia, Ukraine, and the UK, it said.

According to the report, global ending stocks of oilseeds in 2025-26 are seen at 142.26 million tonnes, down from 145.01 million tonnes estimated in September. The department has projected the world's oilseed trade at 214.49 million tonnes, up from 213.79 million tonnes projected in September.

The global soybean supply and demand forecasts include lower beginning stocks, lower production, lower crush, higher exports, and reduced ending stocks, the department said.

Global soybean production estimate has been lowered by 4.12 million tonnes to 421.75 million tonnes. Global soybean crush estimate has been reduced by 1.7 million tonnes to 365.0 million tonnes due to lower crush in India and Argentina. "Crush is reduced for India on the lower crop. Crush is reduced for Argentina on lower supplies due to lower beginning stocks and higher exports," it said.

Global soybean exports are pegged at 187.97 million tonnes, up from 187.78 million tonnes estimated in September. The department's estimate for soybean beginning stocks has been reduced to 123.34 million tonnes from 123.58 million tonnes, while ending stocks estimates have been lowered to 121.99 million tonnes from 123.99 million tonnes.

Estimate for soymeal exports for 2025-26 has been lowered to 81.55 million tonnes from the previous estimate of 82.17 million tonnes. Soymeal imports are expected to be lower at 77.96 million tonnes from 78.58 million tonnes pegged in September. The global soymeal output is projected at 286.42 million tonnes, down from 287.74 million tonnes seen in September.  End
