MUMBAI – Prices of maize rose in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday, tracking the price of grain processed by millers, traders said. Prices of maize were steady in other key markets of the country. Prices of wheat and rice were largely steady due to lack of fresh cues, they said.

Prices of MAIZE in Indore rose by INR 20 to INR 1,800 per 100 kilograms, tracking the prices of processed grains. "Demand is steady, but millers have increased their prices of final product," Gaurav Kochar, a local trader said. Prices of maize in Davanagere, Karnataka, were steady at INR 1,600–INR 1,940 per 100 kg, said local trader Shiva Kumar. Despite arrivals falling to 10,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg) from 20,000 bags, traders do not see this as a significant fall, Kumar said.

Prices of WHEAT in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, remained steady at INR 2,800-INR 2,825 per 100 kg, Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader, said. Vora expects prices to remain steady until there is any further notice from the government regarding the open market sales scheme. In Indore, prices were largely steady at INR 2,770 per 100 kg due to lack of fresh cues, Gaurav Kochar, a local trader, said.

In Kota, Rajasthan, prices of wheat were largely steady at INR 2,480 per 100 kg, local trader Aniket Mehta said. Arrivals in Kota fell to 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 7,000 bags Tuesday, as farmers are busy sowing rabi crops, he said.

Prices of major varieties of RICE remained steady in key markets due to lack of fresh cues. Prices of basmati 1401 and 1121 varieties remained unchanged at INR 7,500-INR 7,600 per 100 kg and INR 8,000-INR 8,300 per 100 kg, respectively, in the Vashi market, Vora said. The price of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati rice, remained stable at INR 5,200-INR 5,300 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, local trader Ravi Shankar said. He expects prices to remain steady in the near term.  End
