India Sept tea production down 6% on yr at 159.92 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – Production of tea in India fell around 6% on year to 159.92 million kilograms in September, according to the provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 169.93 million kg of tea in September 2024. During Jan-Sept, the total tea production was 971.48 million kg, according to the data.
Tea production in north Indian states fell nearly 6% on year to 138.65 million kg in September. Assam accounted for 94.76 million kg, which is 59% of the country's total production. West Bengal accounted for 25% of the total output at 40.03 million kg, the data showed. Assam's production rose around 1% on year while West Bengal's production fell over 17% in September. For Jan-Sept, the total tea output in north India was 796.80 million kg.
Tea production in south India fell over 7% on year to 21.27 million kg in September. Tamil Nadu's tea production fell around 5% on year to 15.79 million kg. Karnataka produced 350,000 kg of tea, while Kerala produced 5.13 million kg, the data showed. In south India, during Jan-Sept, tea production was 174.68 million kg. End
