Cold to severe cold wave likely in west MP, parts of Delhi, UP till Wed

MUMBAI – Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely in parts of west Madhya Pradesh till Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh during the same period.
Similar conditions are likely in parts of east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh till Friday, in west Madhya Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, in Vidarbha on Wednesday and Thursday, and in Jharkhand and Odisha on Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather department said.
In hilly regions, a cold wave occurs when the minimum temperatures are at (-)4.5 degrees Celsius to (-) 6.4 degrees Celsius, while a severe cold wave occurs when minimum temperatures are equal to or below (-) 6.5 degrees Celsius. In plains, a cold wave occurs when temperatures are lower than or equal to 4 degrees Celsius, and a severe cold wave occurs when temperatures drop below 2 degrees Celsius.
There will be no major change in minimum temperature over northeast and east India during the next five days. No major changes in minimum temperatures are likely over northwest India in the next four to five days, during which temperatures will be below normal by 2–3 degrees Celsius, the weather department said. No major change in minimum temperature over Maharashtra and Gujarat during the next three days. The minimum temperature is likely to fall by 3–4 degrees Celsius for two to three days over Telangana, after which no major change is seen in the next four days, the department said.
A few spells of heavy rainfall are very likely over parts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday and Thursday, and over Kerala till Tuesday, the weather department said. End
