MUMBAI – Production of crude palm oil in Malaysia was at 2.04 million tonnes in October, up 11% on month, according to preliminary data from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. In October, Malaysia's total palm oil stocks rose over 4% to 2.50 million tonnes. Exports rose 19% on month to nearly 1.70 million tonnes, the board said.
Palm oil imports, including of processed oils, were at 36,283 tonnes, down nearly 54% from the previous month, according to the data.
A Reuters poll had forecast stocks in October at 2.44 million tonnes, output at 1.94 million tonnes, and exports at 1.48 million tonnes. Malaysia is the world's second-largest producer of crude palm oil and India is the largest consumer of edible oils. At 1133 IST, the most-active January contract of crude palm oil on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives was at 4,110 ringgits (INR 86,742.78) per tonne, marginally up from the previous close.
