MUMBAI – Oilseed prices showed a mixed trend in key spot markets across the country Thursday. Mustard seed prices rose in Jaipur due to concerns of supply shortage, while groundnut in Gondal fell because of higher arrivals, traders said. Soybean prices were steady across the key markets amid lower demand for soymeal, said traders.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 50 from the previous day to INR 7,225-INR 7,250 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were steady at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg)according to GGN Research. Prices rose as heavy rainfall in the last week of October had led to the possibility of crop damage eventually leading to a supply shortage, traders said.

In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 6,500 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags, down from 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the previous day, he said.

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 2,200-INR 4,750 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were also steady at 8,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he added.

Soybean prices in Kota were also steady at INR 4,500 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals stood at 45,000 bags, up 5,000 from the previous day, he added. "Good quality arrivals or seeds with low moisture content are fewer," he said. "These are selling at a fast pace due to firm demand from millers".

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Gondal, Gujarat, were down INR 300 at INR 3,500-INR 5,000 per 100 kg due to higher arrivals, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 1,350 bags, up from 260 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the previous day. The groundnut that will arrive in the next few days is likely to be of poor quality and full of moisture due to the rains in the last week of October, he added. Groundnut prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,100-INR 5,250 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 22,000 bags, he added.
