MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were mixed in key spot markets across the country. Mustard seed prices rose in Jaipur but fell in Kota while prices of groundnut and soybean were steady across markets, said traders.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 50 from the previous day to INR 7,175-INR 7,200 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 25,000 bags from the previous day, according to GGN Research. Prices rose as heavy rainfall in the last week of October had given rise to the possibility of crop damage which could lead to a supply shortage, traders said.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices fell INR 100 from the previous day to INR 6,500 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.
SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 2,200-INR 4,750 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were also steady at 8,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he added. Prices were steady due to a rise in output and lower demand for soymeal, traders said.
Soybean prices in Kota were also steady at INR 4,500 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals stood at 40,000 bags, same as the previous day, he added. "Good quality arrivals or seeds with low moisture content are fewer," he said. "These are selling at a fast pace due to firm miller demand."
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Gondal, Gujarat, were steady at INR 3,800-INR 5,100 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 260 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), same as the previous day. The groundnuts that will arrive in the next few days are likely to be of poor quality and full of moisture due to the rains received in the last week of October, he added. Groundnut prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,100-INR 5,250 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 22,000 bags, he added.
