MUMBAI – Prices of mustard rose in the key spot markets of the country, those of soybean were mixed and those of groundnut were steady, said traders. Prices of good quality soybean rose in Kota due to firm demand for the good quality crop which had a limited availability in the market, they said.

MUSTARD prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose by INR 25 to INR 7,125-INR 7,150 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 225,000 bags, same as the previous day (1 bag = 50 kg)according to GGN Research. The rainfall is likely to boost quality of the mustard harvest, market participants said. Rainfall provides essential moisture for germination and early growth of the mustard crop, which is typically sown in the first half of October.

Prices of mustard seed in Kota, Rajasthan, rose by INR 100 from the previous day to INR 6,600 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Mustard seeds that arrived in the market were of good quality and had higher oil content, which is why prices rose, he said.

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 2,500-INR 4,650 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 6,500 bags, down from 500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) the previous day, he added. Prices were steady due to a rise in output and lower demand for soymeal, traders said.

Soybean prices in Kota rose by INR 50 to INR 4,500 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals stood at 40,000 bags, same as the previous day, he added. "Good quality arrivals or seeds with low moisture content are less. These are selling at a fast pace due to firm miller demand," he said.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Gondal, Gujarat, were steady at INR 3,800-INR 5,100 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 260 bags (1 bag = 30 kg) same as the previous day, he said. Crops which are going to arrive in the coming days are going to be of low quality and full of moisture due to heavy rainfall during this week, he added.
