MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were mixed across key spot markets of the country, said traders. Mustard prices fell in Kota and Jaipur, groundnut prices rose in Gondal, while soybean prices were steady across markets, they said.

MUSTARD prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 25 to INR 7,100-INR 7,125 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 225,000 bags, up from 200,000 bags the previous day (1 bag = 50 kg)according to GGN Research.

Prices of mustard seed in Kota, Rajasthan, fell by INR 100 from Tuesday to INR 6,500 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as Tuesday, he said. The Kota market was shut Wednesday because of heavy rainfall. But the rainfall is likely to boost quality of the mustard harvest, market participants said. Rainfall provides essential moisture for germination and early growth of the mustard crop, which is typically sown in the first half of October.

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 2,500-INR 4,650 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 7,000 bags, down from 1,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) the previous day, he added. Prices were steady due to rise in output and lower demand for soymeal, traders said.

Soybean prices in Kota were steady at INR 4,450 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals stood at 40,000 bags, up 20,000 bags from Tuesday, he added. "Good quality arrivals or seeds with low moisture content are less. These are selling at a fast pace," he said.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Gondal, Gujarat, were at INR 3,800-INR 5,100 per 100 kg, up INR 200 from the previous day due to lower arrivals, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 260 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), he said. Arrivals were very low as farmers could not come to mandis due to heavy rainfall, Virvani said. He added that crops which are going to arrive in the coming days are going to be of low quality and full of moisture due to heavy rainfall during this week.
