NEW DELHI – The Ministry of Coal Wednesday launched the 14th round of commercial coal mine auctions. Under the 14th round, a total of 41 coal mines – five mines under the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act and 36 mines under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act – have been put up for auction, the ministry said in a release.
Of these, 20 mines are fully explored and 21 are partially explored, the release said. The ministry said 21 mines possess underground coal gasification potential, opening new avenues for the underground gasification of deep-seated coal reserves. Pilot underground coal gasification projects are exempted from environmental clearance, ensuring faster implementation, the release said.
The Ministry of Coal has so far auctioned 133 coal mines across 12 rounds of commercial coal mine auctions, with a peak rated capacity of around 276 million tonnes per annum. End
