NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of coriander rose while those of turmeric and jeera fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Wednesday. Prices of turmeric fell because of profit booking after prices breached the INR 15,000 per 100 kg level, analysts said. Jeera was down as its sharp upwards movement Tuesday encountered resistance, they said. Coriander prices were up on strong spot prices, supported by rising buying interest, they said.

The most active December contract of TURMERIC fell 2.3% to INR 14,700 per 100 kilograms because of profit booking as prices rose above the INR 15,000 per 100 kg mark on Tuesday, analysts said. However, the fall is likely to be limited due to rising concerns about crop losses in top producing regions, SMC Global said. Excessive rainfall in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, coupled with persistent showers in Erode, Tamil Nadu, has led to disease outbreaks and raised worries about crop preservation due to high humidity, Kedia Advisory said in a note.

The most active November contract of JEERA fell 1.75% to INR 19,925 per 100 kg. The contract "moved sideways" amid cautious purchases from stockists, analysts said. The sharp upward movement encountered resistance at higher levels, "reinforcing the prevailing bearish outlook," SMC Global said. However, downside is likely to be limited on strong spot prices at the benchmark Unjha market amid lower local arrivals. Expectations of improved demand during the upcoming marriage season are also expected to provide additional support to prices in the near term, the brokerage said.

The most active November contract of CORIANDER rose 0.3% to INR 8,234 per 100 kg supported by strong spot market cues over good buying interest, analysts said. The rising demand for the upcoming wedding season is also keeping prices firm, they said. However, weak export demand is likely to keep overall market sentiment subdued, SMC Global said.
