MUMBAI – Prices of maize in Indore, Rajasthan, fell Wednesday due to higher arrivals and low demand, while prices in other key markets were steady, traders said. Prices of rice and wheat remained unchanged due to lack of fresh cues, they said. Markets in Kota, Rajasthan, were closed for the second consecutive day due to heavy rainfall. Prices of maize are expected to fall further as arrivals increase in the market, they said.
Prices of MAIZE in Indore fell by INR 45 to INR 1,830 per 100 kilograms, due to higher arrivals and low demand in the market, Gaurav Kochar, a local trader, said. Prices of maize have fallen below the minimum support price of INR 2,400 per 100 kg due to higher moisture content in the grain, he said. He expects prices to fall further by INR 100 per 100 kg.
Prices of maize in Davanagere, Karnataka, were steady at INR 1,600-INR 1,900 per 100 kg despite low arrivals, Shiva Kumar, a local trader, said. Arrivals in Karnataka fell to 7,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg) from 10,000 bags on Tuesday, he said. Kumar also expects prices to decline further by INR 100 per 100 kg as arrivals are set to rise in the coming days and increase significantly to around 50,000 bags in the near-term.
Prices of major RICE varieties were unchanged across key markets due to lack of fresh cues. Prices of basmati rice varieties, 1401 and 1121, were unchanged at INR 7,500-INR 7,600 per 100 kg and INR 8,000-INR 8,300 per 100 kg, respectively, in Mumbai's Vashi market, Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader, said. The price of 5% broken rice in Vashi was unchanged at INR 3,150 per 100 kg, he said. Prices of rice are expected to remain steady till the end of the year, he added.
Prices of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati rice, remained steady at INR 5,000 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, said Ravi Shankar, a local trader. The price of sona masoori rice is likely to remain steady till December as there is a demand-supply balance in the market, he said.
Prices of WHEAT at the Vashi market in Navi Mumbai remained steady at INR 2,800-NR 2,825 per 100 kg due to lack of fresh cues, Vora said. Wheat prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were also steady at INR 2,750 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Vora said wheat prices will remain steady till the end of this year as supply is sufficient to meet demand. End
