MUMBAI – The government of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday announced an increase of INR 30 in the state-advised price of sugarcane for the sugar season 2025-26 (Oct-Sept), which will take the state-advised price of the early variety of sugarcane to INR 400 per 100 kilograms, according to an announcement on the social media platform X.
The state-advised price for the common variety has been raised to INR 390 per 100 kg from INR 360 per 100 kg, as per the post. Along with paddy and wheat, sugarcane is a major cash crop in Uttar Pradesh with nearly 4.5 million farmer households directly involved in its cultivation.
"Sugarcane farmers are the backbone of UP's economy. It is our commitment to ensure they receive fair and timely payment for their produce," Business Standard quoted the state's Sugarcane Development Minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary as saying. Uttar Pradesh has paid more than INR 2.9 trillion to sugarcane farmers since 2017, he added. Calling it a "historic move", the minister said the increased price would mean an additional payment of INR 30 billion to sugarcane farmers this crushing season. End
