MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in Jaipur Wednesday while soybean prices rose in Ratlam and groundnut prices were steady in Gondal, said traders. Soybean prices are likely to fall due to rise in production and lower demand for soymeal, they added.
MUSTARD prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 50 to INR 7,125-INR 7,150 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were steady at 200,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to GGN Research.
Prices of mustard seed in Kota, Rajasthan, was unavailable as the market was shut due to heavy rainfall, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Recent rainfall in Rajasthan is likely to boost the quality of the mustard harvest, market participants said. Rainfall provides essential moisture for germination and early growth of the mustard crop, which is typically sown in the first half of October.
SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, rose INR 50 per 100 kg to INR 2,500-INR 4,650 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 6,000 bags, up from 5,800 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) the previous day, he added. Dry seeds are selling at a fast pace, traders said. Soybean seeds with low moisture content are less prone to the risk of spoilage and give higher oil yield, which makes them more attractive to buyers and processors. Demand from millers is firm, they added. However, the rise in soybean prices is unlikely to sustain due to rise in output and lower demand for soymeal, traders said.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Gondal, Gujarat, were steady at INR 3,500-INR 5,500 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals were very low as farmers could not come to mandis due to heavy rainfall, Virvani said.
