NEW DELHI – Mustard prices were up in key domestic spot markets Tuesday, traders said. Prices of mustard rose on the back of good quality arrivals, they added. Soybean prices rose in one market owing to the fast sale of seeds with low moisture content, traders said. Groundnut prices in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam held steady, they added.

MUSTARD prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 25 to INR 7,175-INR 7,200 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country stood at 200,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 50,000 bags from Monday, according to GGN Research.

Prices of mustard seed in Kota, Rajasthan rose INR 100 to INR 6,600 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals stood at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, he added. Prices rose on the back of good quality of arrivals in the market, Sameriya said.

Recent rainfall in Rajasthan is likely to boost the quality of the mustard harvest, market participants said. Rainfall provides essential moisture for the germination and early growth of the mustard crop, which is typically sown in the first half of October.

SOYBEAN prices in Kota rose INR 50 to INR 4,450 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals stood at 20,000 bags, down 20,000 bags from Monday, he added. Arrivals fell on the back of heavy rainfall in the city, he added.

"Dry seeds are selling off at a fast pace," a local trader from Kota said. Soybean seeds with low moisture content are less prone to the risk of spoilage and give out higher oil yields, which makes them more attractive to buyers and processors. Demand from millers stands firm, he added.

"A positive outlook is expected for the soybean market," said Aniket Mehta, a local trader from Kota. "Prices could rise by INR 300-INR 400," he added.

In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, soybean prices held steady at INR 2,500-INR 4,600 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals stood at 5,800 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 600 bags from the previous day, he added.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam held steady and traded in the range of INR 2,400-INR 5,100 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, Porwal said. Arrivals stood at 22,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 4,000 bags from Monday, he added. In Rajkot, Gujarat, prices for groundnut variety 320 held steady at INR 8,500 per 100 kg, Bhaumik Patel, a trader from Rajkot said. "Heavy rains are affecting the quality of arrivals," he added.
