Global alumina production in Sept down 3% on month, says Aluminium Institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell over 3% on month to 12.88 million tonnes in September, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a yearly basis, alumina output was up over 7% from 11.99 million tonnes.
Average daily global alumina production fell to 429,500 tonnes in September from a revised 429,700 tonnes in August, as per the data. Alumina production in China declined to 7.95 million tonnes in September from 8.03 million tonnes in August. The country's output, which accounts for nearly 62% of global alumina production, was up over 10% from a year ago, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output declined 3.2% on month to 1.42 million tonnes in September. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production fell nearly 7% on month to 1.21 million tonnes. In Europe, including Russia, production fell 49,000 tonnes to 586,000 tonnes in September and the output in South America fell 134,000 tonnes to 952,000 tonnes, the data showed.
According to the data, global production of primary aluminium was down over 3% on month at 6.1 million tonnes in September. At 1434 IST, the most-active November aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 0.6% at INR 269.00 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was down 0.9% at $2,849.0 per tonne. End
