NEW DELHI – Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Monday inaugurated an advanced vegetable and flower seed processing and packaging unit of the National Seeds Corp. at the Pusa Complex in New Delhi. The facility has a capacity of 1 tonne per hour and aims to strengthen the country's seed supply chain and ensure farmers have timely access to high-quality seeds.
The minister also inaugurated five other seed processing units in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, Rajasthan's Suratgarh, and Karnataka's Dharwad, Hassan, and Raichur. Each of these plants has a processing capacity of 4 tonnes per hour and is equipped with advanced technologies to ensure farmers have access to high-quality seeds and to enhance the quality of seed production across the country, the agriculture ministry said in a release.
Chouhan also launched the "Seed Management 2.0", an online seed-booking platform that ensures greater transparency and accessibility. The government has been receiving several complaints about "spurious and substandard seeds," and therefore, it is ensuring the supply of quality seeds, the minister said. End
