MUMBAI – Prices of maize fell across key markets of the country. Prices are expected to fall further due to rise in arrivals and increased moisture in the grain, traders said. Prices of rice and wheat remained unchanged, they said
Prices of MAIZE in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, fell by INR 125 to INR 1,875 per 100 kg due to higher arrivals, local trader Gaurav Kochar said. He expects prices to fall further by INR 100 per 100 kg. Prices of maize at Davanagere in Karnataka fell by INR 200 to INR 1,600-INR 1,900 per 100 kg, local trader Shiva Kumar said. Arrivals in Karnataka increased to 10,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg).
Kumar also expects prices to decline further by INR 100 per 100 kg as arrivals increase in the coming days. He expects arrivals to rise significantly to around 50,000 bags in the near-term. In Karnataka, prices fell because of high moisture content of 25-30% in maize. Prices in both Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka have fallen below the minimum support price. The government has set the minimum support price for maize at INR 2,400 per 100 kg for the kharif marketing season 2025-26 (Oct-Sept).
Prices of major RICE varieties were unchanged across key markets due to lack of fresh cues. Basmati rice varieties, 1401 and 1121, were unchanged at INR 7,500-INR 7,600 per 100 kg and INR 8,000-INR 8,300 per 100 kg, respectively, wholesale trader Devendra Vora said. The price of 5% broken rice in Vashi was unchanged at INR 3,150 per 100 kg, he said. Prices of rice are expected to remain steady till the end of the year, he added.
Prices of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati rice, remained steady at INR 5,000 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada, said Ravi Shankar, a local trader. Sona masoori price is likely to remain steady till December as the market is in balance, he said.
Prices of WHEAT at the Vashi market in Navi Mumbai remained steady at INR 2,800-NR 2,825 per 100 kg due to lack of fresh cues, Vora said. Wheat prices in Indore were also steady at INR 2,750 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Vora said wheat prices will remain steady till the end of this year as both demand and supply are on par.
The Madhya Pradesh government is planning to buy wheat at INR 2,700 per 100 kg from farmers during the rabi marketing season 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), according to the state's public relations department. This is INR 115 higher than the minimum support price of INR 2,585 per 100 kg announced by the Centre. End
