NEW DELHI – Oilseed prices were mixed in key markets across the country on Friday, traders said. Mustard prices rose in Jaipur, while soybean prices fell in one market and held steady in another. Soybean prices are expected to see a recovery in Madhya Pradesh due to the state government's price deficit scheme, traders said. Groundnut prices were steady in Madhya Pradesh's Neemuch market, traders said.

MUSTARD prices in Jaipur rose INR 25 to INR 7,200-INR 7,225 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. The all-India arrivals for mustard were at 200,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to GGN. Most markets across the country were closed on Thursday for the Diwali festival, traders said.

"Recovery in prices was seen this week owing to the Diwali festival," Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Further, mustard seed prices are likely to rise by INR 200-INR 300 owing to lower arrivals, a trader from Kota said. Miller demand continues to hold steady, he added. Mustard is a rabi crop that is usually sown in the first half of October.

SOYBEAN prices in Kota in Rajasthan fell by INR 25 to INR 4,400 per 100 kg, Aniket Mehta, a local trader, said. Arrivals were steady at 40,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). "Government intervention in Rajasthan is expected as the Bhavantar Yojana has started in Madhya Pradesh," he added. Soybean prices are likely to recover in Rajasthan, traders said.

Bhavantar Yojana is a price-deficit payment scheme under which soybean farmers in Madhya Pradesh will be compensated for the price difference between the model rate and the minimum support price. Procurement of soybeans under the Bhavantar Yojana began on Friday morning across various districts in Madhya Pradesh.

In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, soybean prices were steady at INR 2,500-INR 4,600 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals held steady at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he added. "It will take around 2–4 days to see the impact of Bhavantar," he added.

GROUNDNUT prices at Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh traded in a range of INR 2,400-INR 5,100 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 44,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he added. Arrivals were of mixed quality, traders said. Demand from millers was steady, a trader from Rajkot said.

Most markets were shut from Oct. 18 to Oct.23 for the Diwali festival, traders said. All mandis across Madhya Pradesh will be closed on Saturday owing to the bank holiday, traders said.
