Global body says production of primary aluminium down 3% on month in Sept

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium was down over 3% on month at 6.1 million tonnes in September, according to data from the International Aluminium Institution. Year-on-year, the production was up nearly 1%.
The average daily global aluminium production in September rose to 202,700 tonnes from 202,500 tonnes in August. China's aluminium production was down 3.2% at 3.64 million tonnes in September, from 3.76 million tonnes recorded the previous month, but up 1.2% on year, the data showed.
In Asia, excluding China, production declined to 400,000 tonnes in September from 412,000 tonnes the previous month. In Africa, aluminium output in September was 134,000 tonnes, down from 139,000 tonnes recorded the previous month.
In the Gulf Cooperation Council, production declined by 16,000 tonnes to 505,000 tonnes in September. Production of primary aluminium in Europe, including Russia, was down to 584,000 tonnes in September from 600,000 tonnes the previous month. The output of the metal in North America fell by 11,000 tonnes to 323,000 tonnes in September while production in South America fell by 4,000 tonnes to 128,000 tonnes.
Global alumina production was up 1% on month at 13.32 million tonnes in August from 13.18 million tonnes in July. On year, it was up nearly 6%. At 1454 IST, the three-month aluminium futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was at $2,855.0 per tonne, down 0.3% from the previous close. End
