MUMBAI – Prices of oilseeds were unavaiable Thursday as key markets across the country were shut for the Diwali festival. Markets will reopen Monday, traders said.

Mustard seed prices and arrivals were unavailable in Kota, Rajasthan, and Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, as the markets were closed, traders said. Traders in Kota expect mustard seed prices to rise by INR 200–INR 300 when the markets reopen as arrivals will be lower. Mustard is a rabi crop that is usually sown in the first half of October.

Prices of SOYBEAN are likely to recover in Madhya Pradesh as the state government has decided to implement the Bhavantar Yojana from Saturday. Under the scheme, farmers in the state will be paid the difference between the selling price and the minimum support price. Madhya Pradesh is India's largest soybean-producing state. However, farmers in other soybean-producing states have expressed concern about the scheme, as their state governments have not offered any such incentive. Soybean farmers in Vidarbha and Marathwada in Maharashtra are also selling soybean at a loss after unfavourable weather conditions affected their crops.

Prices and arrivals of GROUNDNUT were not available at the Gondal mandi in Gujarat as it was shut for Diwali. In Gujarat, groundnut prices are likely to trend lower when the market reopens, because of bumper arrivals, according to Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Poor demand from millers is also likely to weigh on prices, he said.  End
