MUMBAI – Coriander, jeera, and turmeric ended in the green in Tuesday's Muhurat trading on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange. Among these three commodities, analysts expect turmeric to give higher returns in the Hindu year Samvat 2082 on the back of lower production in the kharif season.

Traditionally, trading during the 'Muhurat' session is believed to bring prosperity and financial growth to investors. This session marked the beginning of Vikram Samvat 2082, the Hindu Year.

The most-active December contract of TURMERIC rose over 1.5% to INR 15,360 per 100 kilograms on constrained supply conditions, analysts said. Ajay Kedia, director at Kedia Stocks and Commodities Research Pvt. Ltd., said with a tight balance sheet, turmeric is likely to give higher returns by next Diwali. The area under the spice has risen over 40% in the kharif season, but excess showers during the southwest monsoon are likely to affect the yields by at least 20%, analysts said. This fall in yields is likely to help the golden spice to outshine the other two.

The most-active November contract of JEERA was up nearly 0.7% at INR 19,395 per 100 kg as investors expect a fall in the jeera acreage in the upcoming rabi season. Kedia said jeera acreage is likely to fall by 10-15% mostly on the back of a shift to wheat crop due to higher returns in the latter. After turmeric, jeera is expected to give higher returns on the expected low supply in the upcoming rabi season. However, in the short term, Kedia expects jeera prices to fall slightly due to subdued export demand.

The most-active November contract of CORIANDER rose nearly 0.2% to INR 8,032 per 100 kg. Anticipated rise in demand due to the wedding season and firm export demand are likely to support prices in the short-term and medium term. Investors will now track the area under coriander in the rabi season and weather factors for more cues.  End
