NEW DELHI – Mustard prices were mixed in key domestic markets Friday, traders said. Prices were down in one market on low demand from millers and are likely to fall further as farmers are offloading the old stocks, traders said. Soybean prices were down in one market but up in another, traders said. Groundnut prices were down on weak demand from millers.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, fell by INR 200 to INR 6,200 per 100 kg, according to Ramdana and Sons, a local trading agency. Arrivals stood at 200 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), down 100 bags from Thursday. Prices fell as the festival demand is over and there is no longer going to be bulk buying for some time, traders said.
In Jaipur, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 7,175-INR 7,200 per 100 kg, the same as the previous day, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. The all-India arrivals for mustard across the country held steady at 265,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to GGN Research.
In Kota, too, mustard seed prices held steady at INR 6,600 per 100 kg, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader said. Arrival stood at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 1,000 bags from the previous day. "Farmers are selling off the old crop as the new sowing season has started," the trader added. Further, demand from millers has also gone down, which is likely to put downward pressure on the prices of mustard, traders said.
SOYBEAN prices in Kota rose INR 30 to INR 4,440 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 20,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, he added. The prices have recovered from the past owing to good festive demand, market participants said. In Indore, prices stood at INR 4,100-INR 4,200 per 100 kg, down INR 50 from Thursday, a local exporting agency said. Miller demand remains steady in the state at the moment, traders said.
Some relief is expected for soybean producers in Madhya Pradesh under the Bhavantar Yojana, traders said. Bhavantar Yojana is a relief payment scheme under which the Madhya Pradesh state government would compensate the soybean producers for the difference between the selling price and the minimum support price.
In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, prices held steady at INR 2,200- INR 4,600 per 100 kg, Narendra Porwal, a local trader said. Arrivals stood unchanged at 6,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he added.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh traded within the range of INR 2,200-INR 5,050 per 100 kg, depending on variety. The prices were the same as the previous day, he added. Arrivals stood at 5,500 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), the same as that of Thursday. The prices have been low on the back of high arrivals in the market, traders said. On Thursday, farmers protested against the sharp dip in prices of low variety of groundnut, traders said.
All the mandis will be shut for six days for Diwali from Oct. 18–23, traders said.
