NEW DELHI – Mustard prices rose Thursday due to improved demand from millers and also because of festival demand, traders said. Soybean prices were mixed in the markets of Madhya Pradesh and held steady in Rajasthan's Kota. A recovery in soybean prices is expected in Madhya Pradesh as the state government has announced a relief scheme for farmers, traders said. Groundnut prices fell sharply owing to weak demand from millers and high arrivals.

MUSTARD prices in Guna, Madhya Pradesh rose by INR 100 to INR 6,400 per 100 kg, according to Ramdana and Sons, a local trading agency. The rise in prices comes on the back of active procurement by oil refiners owing to the Diwali festival, an agency trader said. Arrivals stood at 300 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), up 100 bags from the previous day, the trader added. Guna mandi will be shut for six days for Diwali from Oct. 18-23, the trader said.

In Kota, mustard seed prices rose INR 200 to INR 6,600 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 8,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 2,000 from Wednesday, he added. "By the end of this week, mustard may rise by INR 200," a local trader said. Kota mandi will remain shut from Oct. 18-23, for Diwali and other festivities, traders said.

Prices of mustard in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 100 to INR 7,175-INR 7,200 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country held steady at 265,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), as per GGN Research. "Improved miller demand and active festival demand will support the prices of mustard," market participants said.

SOYBEAN prices in Guna rose by INR 200 to INR 4,400-INR 4,500 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals were steady at 800 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the same as the previous day, he added. Soybean prices in Madhya Pradesh are likely to see a recovery as the state government on Tuesday approved the Bhavantar Yojana, market participants said.

Bhavantar Yojana is a price deficit payment scheme under which soybean producers of Madhya Pradesh will be compensated for the deficit between the selling price and the minimum support price, if the price they sold their crop at was lower than the minimum support price. The minimum support price for soybean for the marketing season 2025-26 (Oct-Sept) is INR 5,328 per 100 kg.

Further, soybean prices are likely to rise in the coming days owing to festival demand and fresh demand for the wedding season, a trader from Indore said. In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, soybean traded in the range of INR 2,200-INR 4,600 per 100 kg, down by INR 200 from the previous day, depending on the variety, Porwal said. Arrivals held steady at 6,500 bags (1 bag = 100 kg). Ratlam mandi will be closed for 10 days for Diwali and other festivities, Porwal said.

In Kota, soybean prices stood at INR 4,370 per 100 kg, the same as the previous day, Sameriya said. Arrivals stood at 20,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 2,000 bags from Wednesday, he added. "We expect some relief in Rajasthan as well as government procurement will start soon,". For various districts in Rajasthan, the online registration portal for the procurement of soybean under the MSP-scheme will start from Saturday, so that they can sell soybean to government agencies such as National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.

GROUNDNUT prices in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, moved within the range of INR 2,200-INR 5,050 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, traders said. Prices for the low variety of groundnut fell sharply on the back of "bumper arrivals", traders said. Arrivals stood at 5,500 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), a local trader said. Currently, miller demand is low, traders said. On Wednesday, the farmers in the mandi protested against the sharp dip in prices, traders said.
