Tea Board says exports up over 12% on year at INR 31.47 bln during Apr-Aug

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 31.47 billion in Apr-Aug, over 12% higher than INR 28.01 billion a year ago, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India. In volume terms, exports rose 2% on year to 105.18 million kilograms during the period. During Jan-Aug, India exported tea worth INR 51.44 billion, up over 15% from a year ago, according to the data.
Exports from northern India rose nearly 23% on year to INR 22.42 billion in Apr-Aug, the data showed. Exports from southern India fell over 7% to INR 9.04 billion. In terms of volume, exports from northern India rose nearly 14% on year to 67.78 million kg, but those from southern India declined over 14% on year to 37.40 million kg.
In Jan-Aug, exports from north India rose slightly over 25% to INR 36.12 billion and 14% to 113.14 million kg. However, during the same period, from south India, net tea exports were 3% lower at INR 15.32 billion and down over 14% to 61.28 million kg. The all India average price of tea during Jan-Aug was INR 294.90 per kg, up from INR 261.50 per kg a year ago.
In Apr-Aug, the average price of tea exported from north India was INR 330.84 per kg, up from INR 306.87 per kg a year ago. The average price of tea exported from southern India rose to INR 241.73 per kg from INR 223.67 per kg a year ago, the data showed. The average unit price of tea exported from the country rose to INR 299.15 per kg in Apr-Aug from INR 271.68 per kg a year ago, according to the data. End
