NEW DELHI – Oilseed prices were down in key spot markets Monday. Prices of mustard and soybean fell on the back of weak demand from millers. Prices of groundnut were also down, traders said. Soybean and groundnut prices are likely to ease further as fresh arrivals start flooding the markets, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell by INR 75 from Friday to INR 7,050-INR 7,075 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. The all-India arrivals of mustard seed stood at 480,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 180,000 bags from Friday, according to GGN Research. In Kota, also in Rajasthan, prices of mustard seed fell by INR 50 to INR 6,500 per 100 kg, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Arrivals stood at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 1,000 bags from Friday, he added.
The fall in prices of mustard seed comes on the back of poor demand from millers, traders said. Demand for oilseeds remains sluggish at the moment, market participants added.
In Guna, Madhya Pradesh, prices of mustard seed stood at INR 6,400 per 100 kg, down INR 125 from Friday, according to Ramdana and Sons, a local trading agency. Arrivals were at 600 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), up 350 bags from Friday, a trader with the agency said. Prices for mustard seed were down as "farmers are getting rid of their old crop and preparing for the new harvest," the trader added. Mustard seed is a rabi crop that is usually sown in October and November and harvested in February and March.
SOYBEAN prices in Kota fell by INR 100 to INR 4,300 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals stood at 17,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 1,000 bags from Friday, he added. "Markets are flooded with the new harvest and prices will continue to face downward pressure," a trader from Jaipur said. Poor demand from millers will see prices fall further, Sameriya added. In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, prices were down on a lack of fresh cues, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Prices were down INR 50 at INR 2,400-INR 4,600 per 100 kg, depending on the variety of soybean, he added. Arrivals stood at 5,100 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 400 bags from Friday.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam fell INR 200 from Friday to INR 3,000-INR 5,100 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals stood at 27,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 2,000 bags from Friday, he added.
