India receives 6% below normal rainfall of 2.4 millimetres Sat, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 2.4 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday, 6% below the normal of 2.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Oct. 1–11, the country received 53.1 millimetres of rainfall, 44% above the normal for the period, data from the weather bureau showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall and two received above-normal showers Saturday. Northwest India received no rainfall. Central India received 1.1 millimetres of rainfall, 48% below normal. East and northeast India received 5.7 millimetres of rainfall, 36% above normal, and south peninsula India received 5.8 millimetres of rainfall, 23% above normal.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in five, "excess" in four, "normal" in three, "deficient" in three, and "large deficient" in nine. 12 sub-divisions received no rainfall. End
