India Aug tea production down 8 per cent on year at 170.12 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India's tea production fell nearly 8% on year to 170.12 million kilograms in August, according to the provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 184.45 million kg of tea in August 2024. During Jan-Aug, the total tea production was 811.56 million kg, according to the data.
Tea production in north Indian states fell over 7% on year to 153.99 million kg in August. Assam accounted for 103.52 million kg, which is nearly 61% of the country's total production. West Bengal accounted for nearly 27% of total output at 45.90 million kg, the data showed. Assam's and West Bengal's production fell nearly 1% and over 18% in August, respectively. For Jan-Aug, the total tea output in north India was at 658.15 million kg.
Tea production in south Indian states fell nearly 12% on year to 16.13 million kg in August. Tamil Nadu's tea production fell 6% on year to 12.95 million kg. Karnataka produced 100,000 kg of tea while Kerala produced 3.08 million kg, the data showed. In south India, total output during Jan-Aug was at 153.41 million kg. End
