MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices were steady in one market and up in another on firm demand from millers, traders said. In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, prices of the old soybean crop were trading at a higher price. Groundnut prices were steady in Ratlam, traders said.
MUSTARD prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,125-INR 7,150 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seeds across the country were at 300,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 20,000 bags from the previous day, according to GGN Research. In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard prices were at INR 6,551 per 100 kg, same as Wednesday, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader said. Arrivals were at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 2,000 bags from Wednesday. The market in Kota was shut Thursday for mandi elections. Demand for mustard remains sluggish at the moment, market participants said.
In Guna, Madhya Pradesh, prices rose by INR 75 to INR 6,525 per 100 kg, according to Ramdana and Sons, a local trading agency. Arrivals were at 250 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), down 100 bags from Thursday, an agency trader said. Prices rose on the back of firm demand from oil manufacturing plants in the city, the trader added. "Price can go up by INR 100-INR 150 in the city," he added.
Prices of SOYBEAN in Ratlam rose INR 50 to INR 2,400-INR 4,650 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, Narendra Porwal, a local trader said. Arrivals were at 4,700 bags, down 200 bags from the previous day. "The new (crop) arrivals are of average quality," he added.
In Kota, soybean prices held steady at INR 4,401 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 16,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 2,000 bags from Wednesday, he added. The price of new arrivals stood at INR 4,300 per 100 kg, he said. "The old (crop) arrivals are trading at a better price since they are drier compared to the new arrivals," traders said. Lower moisture content in seeds reduces the risk of spoilage and results in higher oil yields, making it more attractive to buyers and processors.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam fell INR 100 to INR 3,200-INR 5,100 per 100 kg due to higher arrivals, Porwal said. Arrivals stood at 29,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 2,000 bags from the previous day, he added. In Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, prices of groundnut stood at INR 4,200-INR 5,000 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, traders said. "The new arrivals are of mixed quality," traders added. Prices may fall by INR 500 if the new harvest is moisture laden, a trader from Rajkot said.
