MUMBAI - Prices of wheat in Kota, Rajasthan, fell Friday on increased arrivals, traders said. Prices of rice and maize remained unchanged due to lack of fresh cues, they added. Maize prices are seen down in the near term on low demand, they said. Sowing of wheat in some parts of India has been delayed due to unfavourable weather conditions, they said.

Prices of WHEAT in Kota fell by INR 50 to INR 2,480–INR 2,520 per 100 kilograms due to increased arrivals, local trader Aniket Mehta said. Arrivals in Kota rose substantially to 20,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 8,000 bags on Wednesday as the spot market was shut on Thursday due to 'mandi elections'. However, Mehta said arrivals were unusually higher. Typically, arrivals of wheat in local markets rise before Diwali as sowing of the grain begins after the festivities.

Prices of wheat at Indore in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 2,775 per 100 kg, according to local trader Gaurav Kochar. He expects wheat prices to fall after Diwali due to low demand. Prices of wheat at Vashi in Navi Mumbai were also unchanged at INR 2,800-INR 2,825 per 100 kilograms amid a lack of fresh cues, wholesale trader Devendra Vora said.

Wheat sowing has been delayed in the northern belt of India following delayed harvest of kharif crops due to heavy rains, Vora said. However, sowing is expected to rise 2-3% on year, as the region does not have any substitute for wheat and has a higher minimum support price for the staple grain. The government earlier this month increased the minimum support price of wheat to INR 2,585 per 100 kg for the rabi marketing year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), from INR 2,425 per 100 kg, he said. On the other hand, a local trader, Amit Vijaywargiya, from Kota said there is no delay in wheat sowing.

Prices of the new MAIZE crop at Davanagere in Karnataka were largely steady at INR 1,600–INR 1,900 per 100 kg, local trader Shiva Kumar said. Prices were steady despite a rise in arrivals as supply and demand were in balance. Prices are expected to fall by INR 100-INR 200 per 100 kg after Diwali due to low demand, he said. Arrivals of the new crop rose to 4,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg) from 1,000 bags on Thursday. Prices of maize in Indore were steady at INR 2,000 per 100 kg, Kochar said.

Prices of major RICE varieties across key markets were unchanged amid a lack of fresh cues. Basmati rice varieties, 1401 and 1121, were unchanged at INR 7,500-INR 7,600 per 100 kg and INR 8,000-INR 8,300 per 100 kg, respectively, Vora said. The price of 5% broken rice in Vashi was unchanged at INR 3,150 per 100 kg, Vora said. The price of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati rice, also remained unchanged at INR 5,000 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada, local trader Ravi Shankar said. Prices of rice varieties are likely to remain unchanged till November, he said.  End
