MUMBAI - Production of crude palm oil in Malaysia was at 1.84 million tonnes, down 0.7% on month in September, according to preliminary data from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. In September, Malaysia's total palm oil stocks rose over 7% to 2.4 million tonnes. Similarly, exports rose to 1.4 million tonnes, up 8% on month, the board said.
Palm oil imports, including processed oils, were at 78,413 tonnes, up nearly 34% from the previous month, according to the data.
A Reuters poll had forecast stocks in September at 2.15 million tonnes, output at 1.79 million tonnes and exports at 1.43 million tonnes. Malaysia is the world's second-largest producer of crude palm oil and India is the largest consumer of edible oils. At 1135 IST, the most-active December contract of crude palm oil on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives was at 4,581 ringgits (INR 95,886.70) per tonne, down 0.2% from the previous close.
