MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were mixed in key domestic spot markets Thursday. Prices of mustard seeds rose in one market but were down in another due to low demand from millers, traders said. Soybean and groundnut prices held steady in key markets but are expected to fall due to rise in new crop arrivals, traders said.
MUSTARD seed prices rose INR 25 to INR 7,125-INR 7,150 per 100 kg in Jaipur, Rajasthan, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals across the country were at 280,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, according to GGN Research. In Guna, Madhya Pradesh, mustard seed prices fell by INR 50 to INR 6,450 per 100 kg, according to Ramdana and Sons, a local trading agency. Arrivals in Guna were at 350 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), up 200 bags from the previous day, an agency trader said. Prices were down due to poor demand from an oil manufacturing plant of a fast-moving consumer goods company in Guna, the trader added.
Prices of SOYBEAN in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 2,400-INR 4,600 per 100 kg, depending on the variety, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 4,900 bags, same as the previous day, he added. In Khategaon mandi, Madhya Pradesh, price of the new crop was INR 4,351 per 100 kg, said traders. The bidding for the new arrivals started at INR 4,151, they said through an online update. "We expected the price of the new crop to at least match the MSP (minimum support price) level," traders from the mandi said. The minimum support price of soybean for the marketing season 2025-26 (Oct-Sep) is INR 5,328 per 100 kg. Prices of soybean are expected to fall further owing to high supply of fresh crop, market participants said.
Prices and arrivals of soybean and mustard in Rajasthan's Kota market were not available as the spot market was closed on Thursday due to 'mandi elections'.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were INR 3,200-INR 5,200 per 100 kg depending on the variety, same as the previous day, Porwal said. Arrivals were steady at 27,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he added. "If the new harvest is not dry, the prices may fall by INR 500," a trader from Rajkot said. Moisture-laden seeds are more prone to the risk of spoilage, which decreases their oil yield, making them less attractive for buyers and processors. Prices of groundnut seeds in Gondal, Gujarat, were steady at INR 4,500-INR 5,500 per 100 kg, a local trader said. Arrivals also were steady at 30,000 bags (1 bag = 35 kg), he added.
