MUMBAI - Prices of mustard and groundnut were steady in key domestic spot markets across the country Tuesday, traders said. Soybean prices were mixed, with rates falling in Rajasthan's Kota due to higher arrivals and remaining steady in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam. Traders expect soybean and groundnut prices to ease as the new crop arrivals have started coming to the markets, traders said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,100-INR 7,125 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) Tuesday, unchanged from the previous day, according to GGN Research. Mustard prices were steady in Kota as well at INR 6,600 per 100 kg, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Arrivals in the market stood at 6,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 500 bags from Monday.

Mustard prices at Guna in Madhya Pradesh were also steady at INR 6,500 per 100 kg, according to Ramdana and Sons, a local trading agency. The data on arrivals was not available as most markets in Madhya Pradesh were closed due to Valmiki Jayanti, traders said.

Prices of SOYBEAN in Kota fell by INR 100 to INR 4,401 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals rose to 15,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 5,000 bags from the previous day, he added. "A downward pressure is expected on the prices as new arrivals have started coming to the market," market participants said.

Soybean prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,000-INR 4,750 per 100 kg, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals fell by 200 bags to 3,900 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). "The new arrivals have a relatively low-moisture content," he said. Lower-moisture-laden seeds are less likely to get spoiled and offer higher oil yields, making them more attractive to buyers and processors.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,400-INR 5,600 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals declined by 900 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) to 3,500 bags. The prices of groundnut seed at Gondal in Gujarat also remained steady at INR 5,750 per 100 kg, according to Thakarshi Punjabhai and Sons, an exporting agency based in the city. Arrivals in the market were at 19,000 bags (1 bag = 35 kg), traders at the agency said. The price of premium-quality groundnut seed was INR 8,800 per 100 kg, they said.=

Prices of average quality groundnut are expected to go down by INR 500 on the back of increased supplies in the market, traders said. Prices are unlikely to rise for Diwali as markets are flooded with the new harvest, market participants said.
