MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were mixed in key domestic markets Monday. While the prices of groundnuts were steady, those of mustard and soybeans showed divergent trends in different markets, traders said. The prices of groundnuts and soybeans are expected to rise in the coming days as better-quality arrivals have started to come into the markets, traders said.
Prices of MUSTARD seeds in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,100-INR 7,125 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seeds across the country were at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 20,000 bags from Friday, according to GGN Research.
Mustard seed prices in Rajasthan's Kota were up by INR 50 from Friday at INR 6,600 per 100 kg, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 1,000 bags from Friday. The prices rose in Kota due to improving weather conditions in the city, he said. The state has witnessed heavy rainfall over the past four days, but as the monsoon has withdrawn completely from the state, the weather is likely to be fairly clear, traders said.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were at INR 3,000-INR 4,750 per 100 kg, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 4,100 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as that on Friday. "The new arrivals of soybeans have a low-moisture content," Porwal said. Lower moisture content in seeds reduces the risk of spoilage and results in higher oil yields, making it more attractive to buyers and processors.
In Kota, the prices of old-quality seeds fell by INR 71 from Friday to INR 4,500 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals stood at 10,000 bags, the same as the previous day, he said. "The prices may go up by INR 200 if the new arrivals are of good quality," he added.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,400-INR 5,600 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 4,400 bags, the same as that on Friday, he added. The quality of new arrivals has improved as the rains have stopped, he said.
