MUMBAI – Prices of wheat, rice, and maize were steady Friday in key spot markets across the country, traders said. Prices of maize and wheat in Indore are expected to fall on the back of increasing arrivals before sowing rabi crops starts, they said.
Prices of WHEAT in Kota were steady at INR 2,550 per 100 kilograms, local trader Aniket Mehta said. Although prices were steady, there was a slight downward bias due to low demand in the market for wheat, he said. Arrivals in Kota rose to 8,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 5,000 bags on Wednesday as arrivals usually rise after a holiday. Markets in Kota were shut Thursday on account of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti.
Wheat prices at Vashi in Navi Mumbai were unchanged at INR 2,800-INR 2,825 per 100 kg, wholesale trader Devendra Vora said. Wheat prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were unchanged at INR 2,800 per 100 kg, local trader Gaurav Kochar said.
Kochar said prices are likely to fall by INR 100 to INR 2,700 per 100 kg as arrivals are likely to increase, as farmers tend to sell the grain before the sowing of rabi crops starts. However, the fall in prices is expected to be limited on the back of demand ahead of Diwali.
Prices of MAIZE in Indore were steady at INR 2,000 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Prices are likely to fall by INR 100 to INR 1,900 per 100 kg as the new arrivals start, he said.
Prices of the 1401 and 1121 varieties of basmati RICE were steady at INR 7,500-INR 7,600 per 100 kg and INR 8,000-INR 8,300 per 100 kg, respectively, due to lack of fresh cues, Vora said. The price of 5% broken rice in Vashi was unchanged at INR 3,150 per 100 kg, he said. The price of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati rice, remained unchanged at INR 5,000 per 100 kg in Bhavanipuram, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, local trader Ravi Shankar said. End
