MUMBAI – Mustard prices fell in Jaipur Wednesday while quotes from Kota were unavailable. Groundnut prices remained unchanged in Ratlam, traders said. Soybean prices, too, were steady. The quality of new arrivals of groundnut and soybean in key markets is likely to be affected by heavy rains, traders added.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 75 to INR 7,000-INR 7,025 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals across the country were steady at 235,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to GGN Research. This season, mustard seed prices have been lower owing to poor demand from millers and competition from cheaper soyoil and sunflower oil, market participants said.
Mustard seed prices in Kota, Rajasthan, were not available as most mandis across the city were shut for Dussehra, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. The markets will be closed Thursday, too.
Prices of SOYBEAN in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, held steady in the range of INR 2,400-INR 4,600 for different varieties. Arrivals also remained unchanged at 4,100 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Soybean prices have been under pressure after India imported 500,000 tonnes of soyoil from Argentina in September, traders said.
In Kota, soybean prices fell to INR 4,500, down INR 50 from Tuesday, according to local trader Aniket Mehta. Arrivals fell to 4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 6,000 bags the previous day, he said. The fall in arrivals comes after heavy rains in Rajasthan the past few days, he said. "The future trajectory of prices depends on the quality of arrivals," he added. Soybean arrivals have just started reaching the markets, traders said. Soybean is a kharif crop that is typically harvested around Sept-Oct.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam remained unchanged at INR 4,200–INR 5,800 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals also held steady at 2,700 bags, he said. Prices of groundnut in Gondal, Gujarat, were steady at INR 3,700-INR 5,200 per 100 kg, a local trader said. Arrivals fell marginally to 1,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down just 3 bags from Tuesday. Heavy rains are likely to damage the quality of new arrivals, another trader said. End
