NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of turmeric rose while those of coriander and jeera fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Monday. Prices of turmeric rose due to festival season demand while those of coriander fell as buyers were hesitant, analysts said. Jeera prices fell due to increased selling pressure.
The most active October contract of TURMERIC rose 1.1% to INR 12,450 per 100 kg on a rise in festival season demand and short-covering, analysts said. With the festival season approaching, prices have received some support as demand rose, said SMC Global Securities. Moreover, prices rose on short-covering on Monday after registering a fall in the last trading session on Friday, analysts said.
However, the rise in prices is likely to be limited due to panic selling in spot markets amid prospects of a good crop this year. Preliminary estimates suggest a 15% increase in sowing this season, Kedia Advisory said.
The most active October contract of JEERA fell 0.5% to INR 19,020 per 100 kg, weighed down by sluggish demand, rising arrivals, and ample stock levels. Overall sentiment is weak, with abundant supply and ongoing selling pressure expected to cap any significant price rebound, SMC Global said in a note. Any attempt at an upside is likely to face selling pressure at higher levels, it said.
The most active October contract of CORIANDER fell 0.4% to INR 8,290 per 100 kg as buyers remained hesitant, SMC Global said. "Buyers and exporters are currently adopting a cautious approach," it said. This is despite a 23?ll in local arrivals, particularly in Rajasthan and Gujarat, the brokerage said. Seasonal demand coupled with restricted arrivals is likely to keep the market firm in near term, analysts at SMC Global said.
