Global production of primary aluminium slightly up on month in Aug

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium was up marginally month-on-month at 6.28 million tonnes in August, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. Year-on-year, the production was up nearly 1%.
The average daily global aluminium production in August rose to 202,500 tonnes from 202,200 tonnes in July. China produced 3.76 million tonnes of aluminium in August, unchanged from the previous month but up 1% on year, the data showed. The country accounts for nearly 60% of the metal's global production.
In Asia, excluding China, production rose to 412,000 tonnes in August from 411,000 tonnes the previous month. In Africa, aluminium output in August was 140,000 tonnes, unchanged from the previous month.
In the Gulf Cooperation Council, production increased by 2,000 tonnes to 521,000 tonnes in August. Production of primary aluminium in Europe, including Russia, rose to 600,000 tonnes in August from 598,000 tonnes in the previous month. The output of the metal in North America rose by 4,000 tonnes to 334,000 tonnes in August while production in South America fell by 2,000 tonnes to 132,000 tonnes.
Global alumina production rose 6% on month to 13.18 million tonnes in July. At 2025 IST, the three-month aluminium futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was $2,650.0 per tonne, down 0.1% from the previous close. End
