MUMBAI – The Solvent Extractors Association signed two memorandum of understanding with stake holders of the edible oil industry to increase productivity and promote self sufficiency in oilseed through inovation at the Globoil event on Wednesday. The association collaborated with AWL Agri Business Ltd. and Solidaridad Regional Expertise Centre to establish 3,000 mustard model farms in nine districts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana.

These model farms will demonstrate regenerative agriculture practices, satellite-based monitoring, soil health management and climate-resilient techniques, aiming to bridge the yield gap in mustard cultivation, according to AWL Agri Business ltd. This collaboration between the Solvent Extractors Association will be in force till August 2027.

The initiative seeks to train and support 20,000 farmers through demonstration plots, farmer field schools and digital advisory platforms. By adopting sustainable practices, the project targets a 30% increase in smallholder productivity and income, directly contributing to India's National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds and the government's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

"As India continues to depend heavily on edible oil imports, mustard presents an immense opportunity to strengthen our self-reliance," said Angshu Mallick, AWL Agri chief executive officer and managing director, at the event.

The solvent extractors association, the Asian Palm Oil Alliance, and the Indonesian Palm Oil Association also signed a tri-party memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation on trade, sustainability, innovation, and market development across Asia's palm oil value chain.

At the same event, the Asian Palm Oil Alliance, Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries, and Solidaridad also signed a memorandum of understanding for strategic cooperation on sustainable and inclusive palm oil.  End
