NEW DELHI – Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the procurement of major pulses and oilseeds in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat for the crop year 2025–26 (Jul-Jun), the agriculture ministry said in a statement Tuesday. The total cost of procurement is estimated at INR 13.9 billion, the ministry said. Chouhan has authorised 100% procurement for urad and tur, along with procurement of moong, sesame or til, and groundnut in Uttar Pradesh and urad, soybean, moong, and groundnut in Gujarat.
After discussions on Uttar Pradesh's proposal, Chouhan approved the procurement of 227,860 tonnes of urad, or 100% of the state's produce, and 100% procurement of 113,780 tonnes of tur. In addition, procurement of 1,983 metric tonnes of moong was approved. The minister also sanctioned the procurement of 30,410 tonnes of sesame and 99,438 tonnes of groundnut, as per the statement.
For Gujarat, Chouhan approved the procurement of 47,780 tonnes of urad along with 109,905 tonnes of soybean. He also approved the procurement of 1.2 million tonnes of groundnut and 4,415 tonnes of moong in the state.
The minister stressed that genuine farmers will benefit, as procurement will be handled through digital portals with biometric checks. All payments will be processed digitally, ensuring direct transfers into the bank accounts of registered farmers, as per the statement. About 350 point-of-sale machines will be used in Uttar Pradesh and 400 in Gujarat for this purpose. Procurement quantities may be increased after the first advance crop estimates. End
