NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of turmeric and jeera fell while those of coriander rose on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Tuesday. Turmeric prices have been falling on expectations of higher acreage. Jeera was down on weak domestic and export demand while coriander rose on seasonal demand, according to analysts.
The most-active October contract of TURMERIC fell 0.8% to INR 12,210 per 100 kilograms as selling pressure emerged amid expectations of higher acreage supported by a favourable monsoon, Kedia Advisory said. However, the downside was capped on reports of crop damage from recent heavy rainfall, especially in Nanded, Maharashtra, where nearly 15% of the crop area was affected. At the same time, farmer-held stocks in Warangal, Telangana, are almost exhausted, with no fresh arrivals over the past two days, providing additional support to prices, the brokerage said.
The most-active October contract of JEERA fell 0.6% to INR 19,410 per 100 kg as weak domestic and export demand weighed on the market following the conclusion of the retail season, Kedia Advisory said. The downside was, however, limited after the Goods & Services Tax Council moved jeera to the 5% tax slab, which is expected to support domestic consumption, it said. The fall was largely driven by subdued foreign buying and comfortable domestic supplies, analysts said.
The most-active October contract of CORIANDER rose 0.1% to INR 8,358 per 100 kg, supported by strong buying interest amid limited supplies, SMC Global said in a note. Seasonal demand coupled with restricted arrivals is expected to sustain the market's firmness in the near term, analysts said.
