India Apr-Jul spices export up 23% YoY at 654,927 tn; jeera exports down 19%

MUMBAI – India's spices exports rose 23% in Apr-Jul to 654,927 tonnes from 531,037 tonnes in the same period a year ago, data from the Spices Board of India showed. In terms of value, the exports were up 4% on year at $1.55 billion.
According to the data, India exported 78,278 tonnes of jeera in Apr-Jul, down 19% from the year-ago period. Exports of fennel fell the most during the period, by 72% to 11,758 tonnes. Exports of celery fell 35% to 1,879 tonnes. Nutmeg and mace exports declined 17% to 1,486 tonnes and export of mint products, which include menthol, menthol crystals, and other mint oils, fell 15% to 7,757 tonnes, the data showed.
Exports of other spices, which include asafoetida, cinnamon, cassia, cambodge, and saffron, fell by 19% to 17,091 tonnes in Apr-Jul, according to the data. On other hand, ginger exports rose by a whopping 331% to 57,523 tonnes in Apr-Jul, followed by chilli, which jumped 63% to 270,867 tonnes, the spices board said. Coriander exports rose 11% on year during Apr-Jul to 23,447 tonnes and turmeric exports rose 2% to 63,020 tonnes, the data said.
Exports of small cardamom were 44% higher on year at 2,990 tonnes while those of large cardamom in Apr-Jul were up 13% on year to 433 tonnes. Pepper exports rose 10% to 7,283 tonnes, it said. Garlic exports rose 17% on year to 16,266 tonnes, as per the data.
