MUMBAI – Prices of soybean and groundnut were largely steady in key spot markets across the country on Thursday. Prices of mustard were mixed, with rates rising in one market and falling in the other. Oilseed prices are expected to rise ahead of the Navratri and Diwali festivals, market participants said.
Prices of MUSTARD at Jaipur in Rajasthan fell by INR 25 to INR 7,350-INR 7,375 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard across the country were at 275,000 bags, the same as the previous day (1 bag = 50 kg), according to GGN Research.
However, mustard seed prices at Kota in Rajasthan rose INR 100 to INR 6,850 per 100 kg due to higher demand amid lower arrivals, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Demand from millers has started to firm up as the festival season is approaching, he said. "The prices could rise (by) up to INR 500 owing to festival season demand," said the trader.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 3,500-INR 4,550 per 100 kg, with arrivals steady at 5,000 bags, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Prices will start to rise before Navratri, which starts from Sept. 22, according to traders.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 4,700–INR 5,800 per 100 kg, and arrivals were at 1,700 bags, the same as the previous day. Groundnut arrivals are likely to increase once the weather conditions improve, traders said.
