India Aug natural gas output down 3% YoY; LNG imports down 6% YoY

MUMBAI – India produced 2.97 billion standard cubic metres of natural gas in August, down around 3% on year, according to data released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. Gross production of natural gas in Apr-Aug was 14.73 billion standard cubic metres, down 3% from a year ago.
In August, India imported 2.89 billion standard cubic metres of liquefied natural gas, down around 6% on year. For Apr-Aug, the report showed India imported 14.17 billion standard cubic metres of LNG, down nearly 13% from a year ago. The imports in August amounted to $1.2 billion, unchanged from the year-ago period. In Apr-Aug, India imported LNG worth $5.8 billion, down from $6.5 billion a year ago, the report said.
The country's import dependence fell to 49.6% in August from 50.5% in the year-ago period, the data showed. Meanwhile, the country's consumption of natural gas in August declined nearly 4% on year to 5.82 billion standard cubic metres and consumption of natural gas in Apr-Aug fell nearly 8% to 28.71 billion standard cubic metres, the data showed.
