Mustard mixed; soybean down, groundnut up on higher demand

MUMBAI – Prices of oilseeds were mixed in key markets across the country. Mustard price rose in one market, but were steady in another, while soybean fell and groundnut prices rose, traders said. Edible oil prices are expected to rise ahead of the Navratri and Diwali festivals, market participants said.
Prices of MUSTARD rose by INR 25 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, to INR 7,375-INR 7,400 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard across the country were steady at 300,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to GGN Research. Prices rose due to improved demand ahead of festivals, said traders.
Mustard seed prices in Kota, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 6,700 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Demand from millers has started to firm up as the festival season is approaching, he said. "The prices could rise (by) up to INR 500 owing to festival season demand," said the trader.
SOYBEAN prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were down INR 100 at INR 3,700-INR 4,300 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 44 bags, down from 50 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) the previous day. Prices will start to rise before Navratri, which starts from Sept. 22, the trader said. In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, soybean prices fell by INR 350 to INR 3,500-INR 4,550 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 5,000 bags, up from 3,300 bags the previous day, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Gondal rose INR 200 to INR 4,000-INR 5,500 as demand was higher amid lower arrivals, Virvani said. Arrivals were at 1,675 bags, down from 1,938 bags (1 bag = 30 kg) the previous day, Virvani said. Arrivals will start to increase in the coming days due improved weather conditions in Gujarat. The India Meteorological Department has forecast favourable conditions for withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some parts of Gujarat during the next two days. In Ratlam, prices of Groudnut were up INR 100 at INR 4,700–INR 5,800 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 1,700 bags, up from 1,100 bags the previous day.
